 Romney Lists Potential Running Mates
Associated Press via NYT
BLUFFTON, S.C. -- Republican presidential hopeful Mitt Romney on Thursday dropped some names of potential running mates in the 2008 race, but added such speculation is a bit premature.
Among those Romney mentioned for the second slot on the Republican ticket were three Southerners: South Carolina Gov. Mark Sanford, former House Speaker Newt Gingrich of Georgia, and former Florida Gov. Jeb Bush.

Jeb Bush denied honor at U. of Florida
MSNBC News
GAINESVILLE, Fla. - University of Florida President Bernie Machen said Friday he was “tremendously disappointed” with the school’s Faculty Senate vote to deny former Gov. Jeb Bush an honorary degree.
The Senate voted 38-28 Thursday against giving the honorary degree to Bush, who left office in January.
“Jeb Bush has been a great friend of the University of Florida,” said Machen, adding that the Senate’s action is “unheard of.”

 Jeb in 2008?
American Spectator.
Don't be surprised if, come November of 2008, voters are choosing between Hillary Clinton and Jeb Bush for president.
But how can that be? Jeb's not running.
Well, he isn't running now, but the new, front-loaded primary system may, counterintuitively, allow him to enter the race late as a "white knight" rescuing Republicans from a morass of unhappiness and indecision.

 The Christian Right’s Dream Candidate
Newsweek.
His name is Jeb Bush, and unfortunately for them, he seems serious about not running...
Watching the Republican candidates elbowing each other for position on the right is a classic Washington spectator sport. Nobody quite measures up, and they all look a little craven trying. The prize they’re seeking: the evangelical vote, which is crucial to success in the GOP primaries. Republicans can’t win the White House without them, and social conservatives so far have been lukewarm toward everybody in the field.
There’s one politician the Christian right could get excited about: John Ellis (Jeb) Bush. But he’s not running—surely in part because the Bush brand has been so badly tarnished by the Iraq misadventure. A handoff from brother George would have been easy—if only the president had stayed focused on finding Osama bin Laden in Afghanistan rather than rushing off to invade Iraq. But for his brother’s mess, Jeb would be a formidable candidate.

Jeb Bush Steers Advisers Toward Romney
The New York Times.
TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (AP) -- Jeb Bush, who hasn't publicly picked a favorite in the Republican presidential race, privately is talking up the candidacy of Mitt Romney and steering some of his closest advisers to the campaign.
The former Florida governor has said repeatedly he won't be a candidate in 2008 despite encouragement from his father, the former president, and his brother, the current one. But Jeb Bush's support, even tacit, would be critical in the state that decided the 2000 presidential election.

 What Would Jeb Do?
The Washington Post has the story.
Tuesday would have marked his sixth State of the Union address -- and it might have been his best yet.
The nation is in great shape, President Jeb Bush would have reported: record tax cuts propelling the economy to greater heights; a revolutionary school-vouchers program for the first time granting low-income parents real education choices; and, five years after the capture of Osama bin Laden, the final 20,000 U.S. troops returning home from Iraq.

Don't rule out Jeb Bush for national office
From NewsMax.com: Jeb Bush Won't Rule Out Presidency
... “I don’t know what’s going to happen to me next,” Bush said. “I wouldn’t rule it [running for president] out or in. It’s not even on my radar.” Nor is running for vice president.
“I’m kind of excited about not knowing, to be honest with you, just because it’s the first time in a long time in my life where I don’t know what I’m going to do.
“In all honesty, I’m looking forward to what the future holds, but I just don’t know what it will be.”
Perhaps Jeb Bush will do what all presidential hopefuls do: write a book.
