“Further fueling speculation that House Republican Whip Eric Cantor is mulling a bid for the White House, new federal election reports show the Virginia Republican recently spent big bucks on speech coaching.”
…the Alaska governor delivered a rambling, angry, and self-pitying statement praising people who do not give up – and then gave up.
…The steady and diligent Mitt Romney now emerges as the far and away Republican front-runner
NYT:
…There was nothing strange about her decision to quit in midterm, Palin told America. What’s strange — or “insane,” in her lingo — are the critics who dare question her erratic behavior on the national stage.
From the New York Times:
Interviews show that a seemingly relentless string of professional and personal troubles lead to Sarah Palin’s surprise resignation as governor of Alaska.
Arizona Senator John McCain told NBC’s “Meet the Press” that he wasn’t shocked by Sarah Palin’s announcement last week about quitting her job as Alaska governor, but was “a bit surprised” since she did not tell him about it.
Audra Shay, accused of endorsing racism on Facebook, is favored to become the head of the Young Republicans.
Example: “This is an outrage and I CAN NOT believe this nation has him as our leader! It makes me sick!… My disdain for Obama is directly proportionate for his disdain of this country.”

“ Taken by themselves, the exchanges on Shay’s page might be dismissed as an isolated ugly incident. But there’s a pattern emerging from the fringe of the GOP grassroots. Three weeks ago, former South Carolina State Election Director and Richland County GOP Chairman Rusty DePass “joked” on his Facebook page that first lady Michelle Obama was descended from a gorilla which had gone missing from a local zoo. Days later, Tennessee state legislative aide Sherri Goforth emailed out an image labeled “Historical Keepsake”—showing august portraits of all the presidents of the United States, ending with a pair of googly-eyes peering out from a black background to symbolize President Obama. When confronted, the aide to State Senator Diane Black said only that she regretted sending the image to the wrong email list and from her government address. She was “reprimanded” by her supervisors but not otherwise punished (a forced furlough at Memphis’s National Civil Rights Museum would have been an inspired penalty). And of course, all this has taken place after Chip Saltzman’s bid to be RNC Chairman was derailed by his decision to mail out a parody CD featuring the song “Barack the Magic Negro.””
Republican Sarah Palin has decided to quit her Alaskan Governoship mid-term.
Dan Schnur (former John McCain communications director), quoted in the New York Times: “The question for Ms. Palin, whether she is a governor or a talk show host or a commercial fisherman, is whether she can find a way to expand her base of support in what is likely to be a very crowded Republican primary field in 2012″
The term “Walking the Appalachian Trail” has entered the American lexicon. It means one is cheating on one’s spouse.
It is derived from Republican South Carolina Governor Mark Sanford’s original claim that he was walking the trail when in fact he was visitng his mistress in Brazil during Father’s Day weekend.
Nevada’s Republican Senator John Ensign is in the news again today.
News has leaked out that Ensign’s parents gave $96,000 in cash ‘gifts’ to Ensign’s former lover and her family. Some may interpret the gifts as bribes. Some will interpret the gifts as bribes.
Ensign said recently he had an affair with a former member of his campaign staff. He resigned as the fourth-ranking Republican leader in the Senate, but has said he will not resigtn his seat in the Senate.
